Entry #9

Entry #9
School Placement: Dan River high School
Cooperating Teacher: Patricia Moore
Grades/Subjects: 9-12th Health/PE/Drivers Education
Date: September 19, 2014

The students today had early release due to the end of the grading period, which was six weeks.  My host teacher and I decided to let the students participate in PE for the entire blocks since they were only an hour long.  In all of the classes, we decided to play a game called Rapid Fire.  Six students were chosen to be in the middle of the basketball court with all of the dodgeballs.  In order for them to throw the balls at the students they must stay inside the circle.  Everyone else in the class was at one end of the gym.  Once I blew the whistle, the students had 10-15 seconds to cross to the other side without getting hit.  The rounds continued until there was one person standing at the end of the game.

Reflection:
The students really enjoyed the game.  What I enjoyed was watching the girls in the classes actually trying and participating.  It was a pretty hectic game with students running all over the place, but I was glad that no one got hurt and they had a good time.  Students were active and the game served its purpose by increasing students’ heart rates.  The students dread running the mile, but games like these are just as effective.  Today was a short day, but a very productive day.
