Entry #2

Entry #2
School Placement: Dan River high School
Cooperating Teacher: Patricia Moore
Grades/Subjects: 9-12th Health/PE/Drivers Education
Date: August 26, 2014

My cooperating teacher decided to give me a little more responsibility today, so she had me take role in all of her classes.  It was a great day for me to start learning names and to show the students that I was there for more than just observing in their class.  The first block class had a curl up test and had free time with the other class for 45 minutes.  They then got dressed and we went into the classroom to go over the difference between pessimistic and optimistic people.  Second block had the same activity for PE class and so did fourth block.

Reflection:
I can tell that fourth block is going to be challenging.  All of the students know each other well and they seem to be seated in groups of friends, which may have just worked out that way because they are in alphabetical order.  I’m glad they are in that order because it will help me with learning their names.  The students may have to be moved once I learn them because they are tough to handle with just me in there observing and the actual teacher being in the classroom.  I did notice today that the kids are starting to ask more questions about who I am and the reason for why I am in their class.  Students are still trying to learn how to pronounce my last name.
