Entry #8
School Placement: Dan River high School
Cooperating Teacher: Patricia Moore
Grades/Subjects: 9-12th Health/PE/Drivers

Date: September 18, 2014
First block has wanted to play Ultimate Frisbee all week, so
I created an Ultimate Frisbee lesson. We
started out by working in groups. The
students practiced the proper way to throw and catch a Frisbee. Next, the class was separated into two teams
and I explained the activity. After the
game, we went into the classroom and we started a new lesson on the skeletal
system. A bell-ringer was provided to
introduce the lesson and then I went into my PowerPoint presentation. In second block, we did a fitness test by seeing
how many pushups and jump ropes they could complete in one minute. Afterwards, we played ultimate Frisbee against
the other PE class in the gym. Third
block planning was use deficiently to create lessons for Friday and
Monday. In fourth block, the students
completed the bell-ringer on the shapes of traffic sings. We then played a game in which the class was
separated into two teams. One student
from each team would go up to the whiteboard and I would call out a traffic
sign. The first student to correctly
draw the traffic sign would win a point for their team. After the game, the students went into the
gym and we played Ultimate Frisbee.
Reflection:
The day was a complete success. All of the classes went smoothly. My host teacher left me with the classes all
day. The students have been giving me
good feedback. They said that I am
making learning fun and they are enjoying all the activities I have
introduced. What has been great is that
no one has asked to just have free-time.
This placement couldn’t get much better and I am proud of the work I have
been doing.
