Entry #4
School Placement: Dan River high School
Cooperating Teacher: Patricia Moore
Grades/Subjects: 9-12th Health/PE/Drivers
Education
Date: September 12, 2014
First block Health was given a quiz. Afterwards, the students got dressed and they
were tested on running a mile. Of course
high school students love to complain about running a mile. Surprisingly, the students’ efforts were
great and they tried their hardest. The
second block class had a three minute presentation on the benefits of
weightlifting. The students presented
and we gave the students feedback.
During planning period, I graded the quizzes that first block completed
and prepared for the quiz we were going to have in fourth block. Fourth block sat down in their seats and a
piece of blank paper was handed out to each of them. Mrs. Moore likes to give them paper because
it’s easier to handle. Students like to
rip paper out of their notebook, which sometimes isn’t the same size as the
paper that other students use.
Reflection:
I have noticed that everyday students walk into the gym,
they ask one of us PE teachers if we are running the mile as a class. They absolutely dread that activity. If we PE teachers put more emphasis in
providing activities that work cardio-respiratory function, instead of having them
go out and run a mile, we might get kids to enjoy running. Going out and just running a mile is not
fun. Once I take over the class, I will
try to do so to see if it will work.
Students will still continue not to enjoy running, but as long as I
explain to them that the activities we are doing in class will help with their mile
time, then hopefully they will see the benefits.
